About this bus lane
Part of Sheffield's Connecting Sheffield bus priority programme on one of the city's busiest shopping streets.
The bus lane runs on weekday peaks only: 7.30am to 9.30am in the morning and 4pm to 6.30pm in the afternoon, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours any vehicle may use the lane.
Buses, taxis, pedal cycles and solo motorcycles may use it whenever it is in force. The council shortened this lane on 7 July 2025 — it now runs from a point 91 metres north of Marmion Road to a point 52 metres north of Glenalmond Road, and a further length that used to be restricted was taken out of the order altogether.
The camera that enforces it sits near Hickmott Road and went live on 1 June 2026.

Its adjudicators are lawyers independent of the enforcing authority, and their decision is binding on both sides. The grounds that win here are that your vehicle was not in the bus lane during its operating times shown above, that it was an exempt vehicle, or that the signage did not make the restriction clear. It is worth doing: Sheffield City Council accepted 36% of the 14,845 formal challenges it received in 2025/26 (figures from its own FOI response). Note that paying the £35 discounted rate accepts liability and closes the case, so challenge before you pay.
