The short version
BusLaneCheck has no accounts, no logins, no newsletter and no contact form. You can look up any road on this site without telling us anything about yourself, and nothing you search for here is linked to your name.
Three third-party services do run on these pages — Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and the Mediavine advertising network — and between them they set cookies and record how the site is used. That is what the rest of this page is about.
Who is responsible
This site is published and maintained by Luke Segal as an independent project, not by any council or Transport for London. For anything on this page, including a request to see or delete data, the contact address is contact@buslanecheck.co.uk.
What we collect directly
Nothing that identifies you. The site is a set of static pages: there is no database of visitors, no profile built about you, and no data sold or shared with brokers. If you email us a correction, we keep that email so we can act on it and check the entry afterwards — that is the only place your name and address would sit, and it comes from you sending it.
Analytics
Two analytics tools run on the site, and both load only on the live domain:
- Google Analytics 4 — counts visits, which pages get read, roughly where in the world visitors are (country/city level, from a truncated IP address), and which search engine or link sent them. It is used to decide which roads and guides to work on next.
- Microsoft Clarity — records how far down a page people scroll and where they click, including anonymised session replays of mouse movement and taps. It is used to find pages where the answer is buried or a link is being missed. Clarity masks text input by default, and there are no input fields on this site other than the road search box.
Both set cookies in your browser, and both process data on their own infrastructure under their own terms: Google's privacy policy and Microsoft's privacy statement.
Advertising
Advertising on this site is managed by Mediavine, which runs the ads on our behalf. Mediavine and its advertising partners — Google among them — use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to show ads, measure how they perform, and, where you allow it, tailor them based on your visits to this and other websites. The data involved includes your IP address, browser and device details, and the pages you view here.
If you are in the UK or EU, a consent notice from Mediavine asks for your choices before personalised advertising is used, and you can revisit those choices later from the privacy link that notice adds to the page. How Mediavine handles the data, and which partners it works with, is set out in Mediavine's privacy policy and its list of ad partners.
You can also turn personalised Google ads off in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of many third-party vendors at youronlinechoices.com. Switching personalisation off does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant.
Hosting and server logs
The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived logs of requests (including IP addresses) to deliver pages and to block attacks and abusive traffic. That processing is a security necessity rather than a choice made here. Cloudflare's handling is covered by its own privacy policy.
Controlling cookies
Every cookie described above can be blocked or deleted in your browser settings, and blocking them will not stop any part of this site working — the bus lane data is plain HTML and does not depend on them. Most browsers also offer a "block third-party cookies" setting that switches off the analytics and advertising cookies here in one step.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to it being processed. In practice this site holds nothing that identifies you unless you have emailed us, so most requests are best directed at Google or Microsoft, whose links are above. Anything we do hold, email contact@buslanecheck.co.uk and we will deal with it.
If you think your data has been mishandled you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator.
Children
This is a reference site about road restrictions and penalty charges. It is not aimed at children and collects nothing knowingly from them.
Changes
If the tools running on the site change, this page changes with them. It was last updated in September 2026.
