About this bus lane
Hatherton Road has two separate camera-enforced sections and the rules are not the same in both directions. Both operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and both admit buses, pedal cycles and emergency vehicles.
The difference is taxis: hackney carriages may use the outbound section at the junction with Hatherton Street, but are not permitted on the inbound section from Lichfield Street. Motorcycles are barred from both.
The inbound camera has been running since November 2017 and the outbound one since February 2023. Hours and permitted vehicles come from Walsall Council's response to freedom of information request RFI-16212-26, 31 July 2026, which set out the position for each traffic order section by vehicle class.
Private hire vehicles are not permitted in any of the sites the council detailed. The penalty is £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days.
