About this bus lane
Corrected August 2026: there is no camera-enforced bus lane here. The camera on Belgrave Gate enforces a bus stop clearway — a length of road where stopping is banned so buses can reach the stop — which is a different contravention from driving in a bus lane.
An earlier version of this page described a 24-hour bus lane, which was wrong. Three of the council's own records agree: its camera list names this site "Belgrave Gate (bus stop clearway)", its current validation file for the site is titled "belgrave gate bus stop clearway", and it publishes a separate dataset of bus stop clearways on London Road, Belgrave Gate and Evington Road.
Belgrave Gate also has no column in the council's per-location record of bus gate and bus lane penalties, which lists all 20 of its bus lanes and bus gates. The mistake came from the council's 2024 enforcement-points dataset, which mixes bus lanes, bus stop clearways, school keep clears and box junctions in one list.
Bus-only sections of Belgrave Gate may still be signed on the road, so obey the signs — but a penalty issued here would be for stopping in the clearway, not for using a bus lane. Leicester City Council confirmed the camera and its enforcement start date in its response to freedom of information request 38802, answered on 12 August 2026.
