About this bus gate
Camera-enforced bus gate at the northern end of Fotheringham Road (connecting Southbury Road and Kimberley Gardens), introduced as part of the Enfield Town to Ponders End Station walking and cycling route. ANPR camera enforcement began on 15 July 2025.
Hours and permitted vehicles confirmed by Enfield Council in response to FOI/EIR request FOIEIRREF/759 (23 July 2026): the gate operates at all times, permitted direction of travel is southbound, and the motor-vehicle exemptions are ambulance, fire and police vehicles, vehicles directed by traffic signs under sections 66 and 67 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and vehicles acting on the direction of a police constable or civil enforcement officer, subject to the road and street-furniture layout allowing safe passage.
Pedal cycles pass freely — the gate forms part of a designated cycling route. Taxis and private hire vehicles are not exempt.
