About this bus lane
A twin-peak lane through Redfield and St George — 7am to 10am and 4pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, with weekends unrestricted. Six cameras enforce it along the corridor: at Russell Town Avenue, Byron Street, Weight Road, near the Tesco Metro, at Chalks Road and at Clouds Hill Road by the Fountain.
Ticketing has fallen steadily, from about 272 penalty charge notices in 2021/22 to about 32 in 2025/26. Note this lane is separate from the Avonvale Road and Pile Marsh bus gates nearby, which run 24 hours a day.
Bristol City Council lists motorcycles, taxis and emergency vehicles as permitted here alongside buses, and its bus lane page says buses, cyclists, motorcycles and taxis may generally use bus lanes across the city — but it warns that individual lanes have exceptions it does not name, so treat the roadside signs as the authority.
