About this bus lane
The bus lane runs the length of High Street in Woking town centre, from Chertsey Road to Victoria Way, and operates from 7am to 9pm every day. The separately marked cycle lane along that stretch is not part of it.
Only local buses, pedal cycles and vehicles specifically registered with Woking Borough Council may use it — this is a permit scheme, so unlike most Surrey bus lanes there is no general exemption for hackney carriages or private hire vehicles. Emergency vehicles answering a call are exempt, as are vehicles carrying out local authority or water authority duties, Royal Mail deliveries to premises on the street, and building, utility, street-works, cleansing and refuse vehicles that cannot reasonably use another road; you may also enter to avoid an accident.
On camera enforcement: this lane is enforced by camera. Surrey County Council confirmed that in writing on 11 September 2026, and confirmed that Surrey — not Woking Borough Council — now issues and processes the penalty charge notices, following the transfer of parking enforcement in the borough in April 2023; it holds no enforcement records from before that date.
Surrey's separately published list of bus lane camera locations names only the A320 Woking Road and Onslow Street in Guildford, so that list is incomplete and its silence about this site is not evidence there is no camera here. Surrey County Council charges £70, halved to £35 if paid within 21 days.

Note that paying the £35 discounted rate accepts liability and closes the case, so challenge before you pay.
