About this bus lane
Open to buses, black cabs, motorcycles and pedal cycles between 7am and 10am and between 4pm and 7pm, Monday to Saturday. Outside those windows, and on Sundays, general traffic may use it.
The lane was temporarily widened to Monday to Sunday, 7am to 7pm from 28 April 2025 under a temporary traffic order, to trial an improvement in bus journey times; the council rescinded that order and put signs showing the original hours back up in the week commencing 13 July 2026, so the peak-hours pattern above is what applies now.
One caveat on how it is enforced: the council's static CCTV enforcement locations list of 16 February 2026 places a camera on Putney Bridge Road, SW15, but in the same freedom of information response the council named only Garratt Lane and Mitcham Road as bus lanes where a Penalty Charge Notice can be issued for driving in the lane, and said its other bus lanes are enforced by civil enforcement officers against parked vehicles.
We have asked it to reconcile the two. Until it does, treat this lane as enforced and follow the roadside signage, which is the legal authority.
