This bus gate sits on Buxton Road — the former A6 — at Hazel Grove, running 100 metres south-east from a point 40 metres beyond Mill Lane, and it applies in both directions at all times. Only buses providing a public service, pedal cycles and horse riders may pass through: the sealed plan marks the gate "Buses, Cycles and Equestrians only", and Stockport Council's own guidance confirms that hackney carriages are exempt at the Heaton Lane bus gate only, not here.
Be aware that the Order's own heading reads "except for buses, taxis and cycles", which contradicts both its operative wording and the sealed plan, so a taxi driver should not rely on it. Stockport Council has enforced the gate with an ANPR camera since 20 October 2018, and it issued 1,321 tickets here in 2025/26.
The penalty charge rose to £70, halved to £35 if paid within 21 days, on 24 June 2026; it was £60 and £30 before that date.
