About this bus gate
Buses only, at all times. The Traffic Regulation Order came into force on 30 October 1995 and stops every vehicle except buses turning into the Interchange from the B6097 Biscay Way; no-entry signs stand at the entrance to Montgomery Road.
The council approved a replacement order on 7 July 2025 so the bus gate could be enforced by ANPR camera, but as at August 2026 that camera is still not switched on — the council confirmed enforcement is planned and "not live at this time". When it does go live, a first contravention draws a warning letter rather than a penalty charge notice for the first six months, mirroring the town centre scheme that started in 2024.
The bus gate itself is real and signed, so driving through it is still an offence. In that response the council also confirmed it currently operates no camera-enforced bus lanes or bus gates anywhere in the borough, and has issued no bus lane penalty charge notices in the last five years.
