About this bus lane
An offside bus lane on the south-east side of the A62, running south-west for about 56 metres from Lees Road. It applies around the clock.
Who may use it is genuinely unclear, and the two council sources disagree: the traffic order puts this lane in a schedule of its own headed "Bus Lane with No Exemptions", which would mean buses only, while the council’s bus lane enforcement page says its bus lanes may be used by buses, hackney carriages and pedal cycles.
Being an offside lane rather than a kerbside one may be why it is treated differently. Treat the roadside signs as the authority here, and note that cyclists in particular should not assume the general exemption applies.
Oldham Council's own list of camera-enforced locations, given in response to a freedom of information request answered on 11 August 2026, does not include this lane, and the five years of penalty data released with it record no penalty charge notices here. The bus lane restriction itself still applies under the traffic order and the police can enforce it, but the council does not appear to run a camera on it.
