About this bus gate
Bus gate linking the Donnington Heights development to Love Lane, on the northern edge of Newbury in the parish of Shaw-cum-Donnington. Made under the West Berkshire District Council (Bastion Street) (Bus Gate) Order 2025 (TRO ref 9839), using Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 powers together with Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
The Order restricts the gate to local buses and pedal cycles with no time qualification, so it applies at all times. Enforced by ANPR camera rather than rising bollards; enforcement began on 29 May 2025.
The Order exempts vehicles used for maintenance or improvement of the highway, emergency service vehicles, and any vehicle specifically authorised by the council. West Berkshire Council FOI reference FoI/2026/870 (response 13 August 2026) confirms the gate as camera-enforced at all times for local buses, pedal cycles and emergency vehicles, and refers to it as Love Lane / Bastion Street.
The FOI gives the enforcement start date as 20 June 2025, where the council's scheme page gave 29 May 2025; the council has published both, and the difference is not material to the restriction itself.
