This is a contra-flow lane: no vehicle other than a stage carriage (bus), express carriage, school bus or works bus may travel along it, and then only in a southerly direction. Vehicles may enter to remove an obstruction, for police, fire or ambulance purposes, or for street cleansing between 1.00am and 7.00am, and may stop in the loading bays on the east side.
The Order states no hours, which means the restriction applies at all times. Cumberland Council has confirmed, in response to a freedom of information request in August 2026, that it operates no camera enforcement of bus lanes or bus gates anywhere in the authority.
